ULIGAN

Uligan, also known as Uligamu is an islands of the Haa Alif Atoll and geographically part of the Ihavandhippolhu Atoll in the very northern part of the Maldives.
Being enroute from Sri Lanka or Southeast Asia, it is a very convenient stop on the way to the Red Sea or the Seychelles. Special permission granted for transiting boats for a short stay in Uligan, has made the process easy and affordable.
If you wish to stay longer and cruise through the whole of Maldives, other regulations, not mentioned here, are applicable.
FORMALITIES
A short stay (7 days with possibilities of extending if weather restricts departure) can easily be arranged through an agent for a service fee of US$ 50.

Sailing Permit (Only after 7 days for boats over 15m in length)
Upon arrival we had about 6 people come onboard from:
- Custom
- Immigration
- Coast Guard (Port Authorities)
- Agent
Following the paperwork exchanged and filled onboard, our passports were taken ashore to Immigration.
The process took around 1 hour.

This anchorage was appointed by the agent.
(Arriving in daylight will help find sand patch between coral)

SUPPLIES

WATER:
Cheap shower/cleaning water is available in the little Harbor. (It is charged per hour, but it is not much)
Drinking water can be delivered to the harbor. (The easiest is, if you bring in your empty jerry cans) = $3/20L
DIESEL:
As of February 2023 the price of diesel in Uligan was $1.5/L
GARBAGE DISPOSAL:
As Uligan is just a small sand Island and do not have a proper way of desposing of trash, I suggest you try to keep the dump to a minimum, but that is always easier said than done. The price of garbage disposal was $3/bag
LAUNDRY:
Laundry can be arranged and completed within 2 days at a price of $3/kg
SIM CARD:
+ 25GB Data Package + 10GB Booster = US$48
FOOD:
There is only a small kiosk on Uligan, but some fresh can be found here, some days more than others. Considering that the food is traveling all the way from India, the price was surprisingly fair and compatible with the prices in Thailand and Sri Lanka.
If you want to do a bigger shop and also need an ATM, a speed boat or local ferry goes to Dhidhdhoo Island, one of the nearby Islands with more supplies.

Uligan Bakery
This bakery is a wonderful little bonus to staying at Uligan Island.
You can buy the goods in the little kiosk or put in an order directly with the bakery a day in advance for baguettes, loafs and the most delicious chocolate brownie.
